about

melbourne freelancer

Hi, I’m Tahlia Meredith.

As founder of The Melbourne Freelancer, I offer virtual business support services to solo and small business owners, taking care of the details so you can find more fun and freedom in your business.

I specialise in online business management, online course support, and project planning and management.

I’m a skilled administrator, experienced service-based business owner and positive-minded pragmatist who loves to nut out problems and make things happen. I’m also a copy editing rockstar who can make even the most inexperienced writer look like a grammar and spelling superstar.

With a background that includes a degree in psychology and working for the monolith that is the Victorian state government, I’m uniquely equipped to deal with any challenge that comes my way, and take great pride in performing every task to the highest quality so your business is always putting it’s best foot forward.

My clients are passionate about the work they do and I’m passionate about helping their business to thrive.

some quick facts

When I’m not working, you’re most likely to find me spending time with great people over coffee or a Pinot Grigio, reading (particularly contemporary fiction, crime novels, and personal development books), and settling in for a good doco or movie.

I’m oddly fascinated by flamingos. No idea why.

My love languages are emoji and gifs.

I geek out over stationery and organisation – if Ikea and Kikki K had a store-baby I would live there!

I skipped Prep at school because I could already read and write when I arrived. I still have notebooks filled with my early ‘stories,’ which heavily feature a wicked sister who endlessly hassles the heroine. Sorry Mel.

I have a cat and a turtle, neither of whom are called by their actual names.

relevant experience and skills

Given my natural curiosity and desire to learn, I’ve acquired quite a lot of education and experience over the years and continue to seek out new opportunities to learn. Here’s just a little bit of my experience and some other information you might find relevant.

generally speaking…

I hold a degree from the University of Melbourne majoring in Psychology and English Literature (I’ve never been good at choosing just one thing) a certificate in Small Business Management, and a Graduate Certificate of Counselling. I’ve also completed a number of courses about online business, writing, blogging, and marketing and social media.

In a previous life I spent nearly a decade in business administration roles before going to work for the Deputy Premier of Victoria as his personal assistant and assistant adviser supporting the comms team.

I’m best described as multipassionate, with a strong undercurrent focused on personal development.

online course and business support

I’m comfy playing in WordPress, Squarespace, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Convertkit, Kajabi, Podia, Teachable, Canva, InDesign, Leadpages, Planoly, Asana, and Xero, among other things.

I have a strong personal interest in blogging, design, and marketing.

I geek out over time management, organisation and productivity, and believe there’s something really satisfying about mapping out a project and seeing it through from start to finish.

copyediting and proofreading

This has grown from my lifelong love of reading and writing and a voracious appetite for words, which has given me a strong knowledge of the rules of English grammar and punctuation (and the flexibility to know when you can get away with breaking them).

As well as studying editing and proofreading at uni as part of my English Literature major, I interned for 2 years as an editor at Asymmetrical Press editing memoirs and young adult fiction.

I’ve worked with:

  • Business coaches
  • Life coaches
  • Photographers
  • Lawyers
  • Accountants
  • Consultants and thought leaders
  • Psychologists
  • Beauty therapists
  • Artists
  • Educators
  • Copywriters
  • A vocal coach
  • Digital marketing specialists
  • and more…
